FOR BEFFRO IN THE WILLIAM HILL ELIAS CUP

In the WILLIAM HILL sponsored Elias Cup quarter-final tie, Aberffraw, who over the last few weeks of November and the start of December, had been finding it difficult to score started the New Year in style by hitting Llangefni Town Reserves for six. The score-line was certainly not anticipated as the Town had run out winners by three goals to one when Aberffraw visited a month or so ago. This time around there was no stopping Beffro ‘and in particular Iwan Roberts, who rediscovered his shooting boots and went on to grab a hat-trick.
Cefni, who kicked off with the wind at their backs began brightly enough and there was no suggestion of the resulting score-line as half-time drew closer without a goal to cheer - though Town keeper, Alwyn Thomas had earlier denied Gary Bolton with a spectacular save. But with eight minutes to the break, Gary Bolton did break the dead lock , when played clear by Matty Reynolds , he ran on to beat Thomas in the visiting goal. It should have been all square at half time but Arron Rickards in a one on one with keeper couldn’t find the net.
Beffro, now had the advantage of the wind at their backs and Iwan Roberts used it to good purpose when he made it 2-0 from a corner kick [55]. On sixty four minutes, another corner and another goal for Iwan Roberts. The visitors were uncomfortable with corners, and it came as no surprise when yet another corner produced yet another goal and once again it was Roberts as he completed his hat-trick [69].
By now the visitors were completely on the back foot and Gareth Williams scored his first goal for the club. His first shot had been saved but he was alert and able to seize on the rebound before anyone else and net goal number five.
There was time for just one more goal and it was fitting that it fell to Matty Reynolds whose performance had been outstanding from start to finish, and the goal was in keeping with his performance as he found the net with a drive from fully 25 yards
Beffro’ having booked their place in the semi’s now wait to see who their opponents will be as Amlwch Town Res and Morawelon still have to play, but they will have home advantage against whoever they have to play.
