AND HOLY ISLE WIN QUARTER-FINAL PLACE IN JUNIOR CUP

There was just the one game in the KonX Wales Anglesey League with Llangoed and District getting the better of visitors Llanfairpwll reserves who were troubled by free-kicks throughout the game. The hosts took the lead in the tenth minutes, thanks to a father and son combination. Graves senior flighted a free-kick to Graves Junior who found the net with consummate ease. Another free-kick, another goal, this time Mathew Owen heading home a pin point delivery to give a 2-0 half-time lead.
It was much of the same in the second period, as the visitors fought to stay in the game, but despite all their efforts they failed to learn their lesson from the first half which was, to stop giving away `cheap’ free-kicks, and if they weren’t able to do that, then at least defend against them better. But there was no stopping Llangoed as they looked to win their second game in succession, Charlie McKenna lobed the keeper and from yet another free kick Jamie Roberts netted the fourth.

IN the NWCFA Junior Cup Holy Isle progressed to the quarter-finals with a more comfortable passage than the 2-0 score would suggest over Cerrigydrudion . With the tie previously postponed, the Isle wasted no time in setting out their stall and attacked from the off, creating early chances. On ten minutes, Match Official, Mr Dewi Morris awarded the hosts a direct free-kick and Eric Leach curled an inviting ball around the wall, towards the goal, just begging a touch ...... that never came...........but the ball sailed into the far corner of the net anyway. That was the only goal in a one-sided first half and the talk in the home dressing room during the break was .....WHY?
The Isle continued in the same vein in the second period with Stuart Jewell performance standing out, and it was Jewell linking with Tristram Hughes who set up the opportunity for Mathew Roberts to round matters off.

After the game Manager Scott Marsden said the he was obviously disappointed that the number of chances made only resulted in two goals, but the end result is still the same.........we are in the quarter-finals.
