PENTRAETH POCKET POINTS

IN CLOSE ENCOUNTER

Pentraeth, leaders and still with a 100% record in the KONX Wales sponsored Anglesey League, were made to sweat for the three points they needed to extend their lead over Morawelon who were engaged on cup duty, as they welcomed Llangefni Town Reserves. On paper it did not look too daunting a task having beaten the Town by double figures in a league cup tie before Christmas. It soon became clear that they had a game on their hands in what proved to be a `nail-biter’. Cefni stunned their hosts by going ahead after just three minutes. A ball played to Gary Griffiths some twenty five yards from goal did not seem to pose a problem , that is until, taking only a couple of paces forward, he unleashed a tremendous shot that rocketed into the net. Cefni, are a much improved side these days and with more belief in their ability and determination in their play, they sprayed the ball around with purpose and style. They still led as the second half kicked off and although the hosts were not being outplayed they failed to create much in the way of chances. On the hour mark substitute McCann was introduced and the hosts began to use the ball to better purpose. They drew level after the hour mark with Chris Davies finding the net with an outstanding thirty yard blockbuster. With time ticking away substitute McCann played an inch perfect ball from deep in his own half to Liam Hogan inside the Cefni penalty box to lay it into the path of Striker Gareth Roberts to strike home the winner and register three more precious points.
After the game joint manager Tony Jones said “ it proved to be a difficult game and Cefni are to be congratulated on their performance, and whilst the introduction of substitute McCann cannot be called inspired as we know the ability he has in his use of the ball but he certainly changed the game with some exceptional passing especially the one for the winning goal”.
