ABERFFRAW SNEAK IT

By McCann Dave

AGAINST NEWBOROUGH

An Aberffraw team who had gone five weeks without scoring until last week when they broke the sequence at Pentraeth , were hoping to score - and win, so as to leap-frog visitors Newborough who sat one place above them in the table before kick-off by virtue of one point.

Beffro’ seeing, mid-fielder Geraint Sidall in the opposition goal may have been excused for thinking it would be to their advantage, but they were soon proved wrong as he pulled off two excellent saves to deny the home side taking the lead. With ten minutes to go to half-time, Beffro struck to take the lead through a most unlikely source. David Griffiths who had never scored for Beffro broke the dead-lock and half time arrived with them enjoying a one nil lead.

In the second period the hosts play deserved another goal and on seventy minutes the chance arrived. Awarded a penalty, Matty Reynolds who scored last Saturday to break the barren sequence, stepped forward, took aim, and watched as Sidall saved his spot kick. This left for an exciting last twenty minutes as Newborough were quick to catch their hosts on the break and never stopped searching for the equalizer. But Beffro held out to swap places in the table and take a two point lead over their opponents.
