AS PENTRAETH LOSE THEIR FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON

Friday night football returned to Cemaes with the KonX Wales Anglesey League fixture against Amlwch Town Reserves . A game that produced ten goals in front of a large crowd saw Cemaes Bay take the lead with less than five minutes on the clock, thanks to a Liam Holland strike. Unfortunately, for the home spectators the visitors then took over and Ioan Hughes claimed five goals in a nine one victory. Shaun Daniel joined the score-sheet, and substitute Daniel Jones came on to score one with fellow substitute, Shaun Thomas, coming on minutes later to grab a brace.

Only one of the two ties in the BETFRED TROPHY went ahead on Saturday, Menai Bridge Tigers v Aberffraw postponed with the field declared unplayable by match official Chris O’Neal. The one tie that went ahead being the `Match of the day’ clash with leaders Pentraeth visiting second placed Morawelon, saw Pentraeth suffer their first reverse of the season. Despite being reduced to ten men minutes before half-time, Pentraeth played probably some of their best football of the season, Taylor and Haigh each hit hat-tricks but it was Barry Haigh’s that proved decisive. Ninety minutes ended 3-3 , with Barry Haigh[2] and Jordan Murphy matching Tom Taylor three. But extra-time saw the ten men bow to their first defeat as Dale Murphy made it four and Haigh completed his hat-trick with the fifth.

In the KonX Wales Anglesey football league, two games beat the weather Llangoed & District hosted the visit of basement boys , Bodorgan, probably expecting an easy run out but the first half proved anything but as they led 3-0 through Iwan Williams [8] , Carl Pritchard [9] and Dave Flynn [33]. The second period saw the juniors buckle and further goals flowed from Wayne Thomas [50,65], Craig Jones [52,80], Tom Parry [60] Mitchell Jones [88] and two more for Carl Pritchard to complete his hat-trick [70,75]

Llanfairpwll Reserves entertaining fellow Reserves, Llangefni Town., came up against an inspired keeper in Alwyn Thomas. He stood no chance with Ricky Roberts winner, a thunderbolt from outside the box, but twice denied him his hat-trick. Further outstanding saves from Darren Edmunds and David Hayes kept it to the single goal victory.

An outstanding tie in the William Hill sponsored Elias Cup, saw Newborough entertain a Llandegfan Antelope side missing five regulars, but those who stepped up, proved admirable replacements as the visitors secured a quarter-final place with a 5-1 verdict. Derwyn Roberts gave Lope the lead [30]to maintain his `goal a game’ sequence in each of his last five games. Youngster, Joshua Royd doubled the lead [55] and Roberts made it three with his second [63], Chris Arthur [72] and Thomas Jones [77] rounded off the scoring before Ian Hughes converted a late penalty [88] for the hosts.
