IN THE BETFRED TROPHY ROUND 1 CUP TIE

The BETFRED TROPHY threw up the match of the day clash with leaders Pentraeth visiting second placed Morawelon, and the visitors having already beaten the Champions at Holyhead earlier in the league knew they would be in a game as the Moras’ sought revenge.

The hosts took the lead when Barry Haigh met a Sion Murphy cross inside the six yard box and drove home, but nine minutes later Pentraeth were level through Tom Taylor who struck home a penalty. The hosts were soon back in front thanks to a fine goal by Jordon Murphy, who collected the ball on the half-way line and left three men in his wake as he ran on to blast the ball home [32]. A Tom Taylor header levelled matters [44] but they suffered a major blow when Sam Regan was dismissed before the break for a second yellow. Against t en men and with seventy minutes almost gone the hosts looked to have won it when Asa Thomas played the ball in to Barry Haigh, the ball seemed to get stuck in the mud or under his feet, but after what seemed an age, he cheekily flicked the ball in to the net for 3-2. Still the leaders refused to give in and when Tom Taylor was in a one on one with keeper Nick Murphy there was only going to be one winner - and it wasn’t Nick as Taylor completed another hat-trick to make it 3-3 and so to extra-time. No doubt the Moras ‘ felt confident as the ten men looked to tire, but it was still a tight affair, until confusion in the visitors box saw Dale Murphy fire home from ten yards out [110] and eight minutes later Haigh completed his hat-trick to make safe [118].

After the game, a quote from one onlooker was “Good luck to the Moras they deserved the win, but also credit must go to their opponents who probably played some of their best football of the season yet still lost” There is no doubt with due respect to the other teams that the 2012/13 champions were on show today.
