LEADERS PENTRAETH OPEN UP 8 POINT GAP

By McCann Dave

ON SECOND PLACED MORAWELON

KonX Wales Anglesey League, leaders, Pentraeth played host to fourth placed, and inform Llandegfan Antelope in what was expected to be a close game with Pentraeth looking to take all three points and extend their lead with second placed Morawelon not playing due to a postponement. The visitors began confidently but were a goal down after ten minutes when Gareth Roberts put the hosts ahead, tucking the ball away after keeper, Graham Browm parried a long range effort from McCann [10]. Roberts then doubled the score; another long range effort from McCann was heading just inside the right hand corner of the net until Roberts deftly changed its direction to the opposite corner [25]. The remainder of the half saw no more goals though Lope youngster Aled Hughes, showed up well in creating space and laying the ball off to team-mates.

Seven minutes into the second half Pentraeth made it three. Llion Williams struck his shot straight at the keeper and as he turned away in frustration he heard the crowd acclaim his goal as keeper Brown fumbled it and the ball dropped into the net. It was most unfortunate for the keeper who had pulled of four or five first class saves - notibly one from Tom Taylor that was exceptional. The Lope began to get a grip on the game and pulled a goal back when following some enterprising play Dion Roberts was on hand to round it off and strike the ball home. Tom Taylor did then got in on the act, feinting to go one way then going to other to lose his marker and make it four. Youngster Rees Roberts then made it five from inside the box.

Whilst Pentraeth deserved their win, even their most ardent supporters would have to agree that the margin was somewhat flattering, and Aled Hughes for the visitors gave a performance worthy of being on the winning side.
