PENTRAETH COMBACK TO PINCH POINTS

AFTER TIGHT TUSSLE AGAINST ABREFFRAW

In the KonX Wales Anglesey League, leaders, Pentraeth were looking to move five points clear of title rivals Morawelon and did so with confidence knowing that visitors Aberffraw had failed to find the net in any of their last four games. But they received a massive set back after just ten minutes when they found themselves a goal down to a Matty Reynolds strike. Reynolds took a free kick some 20 yards out and his powerful shot flew into the net through a ruck of players with the keeper probably deceived half expecting some-one to get a touch.

The goal broke their barren sequence and served to lift the visitors as they began to push more men forward, and also required the home defence to show their capabilities for a change. The visitor’s joy was short lived as eleven minutes later Pentraeth were level, Llion Williams with a made to measure cross allowed Mark Williams to strike the ball home.

The visitors were saved by the cross bar when Liam Hogan saw his free kick leave the bar shaking., and they enjoyed a bit more luck when Sam Regan struck a thundering 25 yarder that rattled the underside of the cross bar and bounce down `seemingly into the net' according to the home but not an opinion shared with the visitors, and more importantly NOT in the eyes of referee, Mr Steven Jones, of Bethesda, who ruled `the whole of the ball had not crossed the line and so half-time arrived with the scores level at 1-1.

The second half began with the hosts moving up a gear, seeking to ensure their 100% record was maintained, but they found that keeper Gerallt Roberts was in excellent form – not for the first time this season, as he twice denied efforts from close range. On the hours he stood little chance as a long throw from Mark Williams was headed home by the inform Gareth Roberts.

Although leading, Pentraeth were made to work hard to maintain their lead as Beffro’ gave their all in search of an equalizer - that never came.

So Pentraeth are now five points clear of Morawelon having played the same number of games and their title rivals still have to visit Pentraeth in what will undoubtedly be a crucial game.
