PENTRAETH CONTINUE 100% RECORD

DESPITE HAT=TRICK OF PENALTY MISSES.

In the KonX Wales Anglesey Football League, leaders, Pentraeth, were looking to maintain their 100 per cent record in 2013 with victory number 13 against visitors Llanfairpwll Reserves. They looked odds on to take the lead in the fourteenth minute when referee Mr Simon Prytherch awarded a penalty and leading scorer Tom Taylor stepped up to take it, but keeper Rhys Owen pulled off an excellent save only to suffer disappointment seeing Llion Williams strike the loose ball home. Taylor did get on the score sheet eight minutes later when he rose head and shoulders above everyone, ironically from about the penalty spot, to head home a long throw-in. Llion Williams increased the lead when he ran on to a tremendous pass from Tony Farrar to strike the ball past keeper Owen [29]. A minute later and Pentraeth were awarded a second penalty and once again up stepped Taylor giving keeper Owen no chance as he struck the ball well over his head ...... but also well over the cross-bar. Little had been seen of Llanfair as an attacking unit though they moved the ball around well from the back but nothing materialised when it hit their front line.
The second half saw both teams miss chances and both keepers pulled off good saves, and although Owen was much the busier. Home custodian, Geoff Humm did well to react to an Edmunds long range strike and push to ball over the bar at the expense of a corner. With two thirds of the game gone, Manager Mathew Parry, introduced some substitutes to inject `new life’ into the game and they did just that, and when the fourth goal came, it had substitute written all over it. Referee Mr Prytherch made a third penalty award to Pentraeth and with Taylor having failed with the previous two, up stepped substitute Rees Roberts to firmly strike the ball towards the bottom right corner, only to see keeper Owen go full length to get a firm hand to it and push it away but substitute Liam McCann reacted the quickest and blasted the ball in to the net to round off a 4-0 score-line.
